Corten steels are a trademark that weathers steels. They get their name from their ability to weather and form surface oxide layers. Steel A242 TYPE 2 s and A242 TYPE 2s from Corten Steel are made up of different grades of Corten steel.

Corten Steel Panels form a protective patina layer containing corrosion products when exposed to adverse weather conditions. It is necessary to design and execute structures to allow an impeded formation and regeneration of the protective rust layer to take advantage of the higher atmospheric corrosion resistance of weather-resistant steel tubing than unalloyed steel.
