Stainless steel PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) fabrication is a process that involves applying a thin layer of coating onto a stainless steel substrate through a physical vapor deposition technique. PVD coatings usually comprise titanium, zirconium, or chromium, which are evaporated into a vacuum chamber and deposited onto the stainless steel surface.

The process involves several steps, including cleaning the stainless steel substrate to ensure it is contaminant-free and preparing it for deposition. The substrate is then placed in a vacuum chamber subjected to a high-temperature and low-pressure environment.

Next, the material to be deposited is vaporized in a vacuum, and the vapor condenses onto the stainless steel substrate, forming a thin film coating. The thickness of the layer can be controlled by adjusting the deposition parameters such as temperature, pressure, and time.

PVD coatings offer several benefits, including increased durability, resistance to wear and corrosion, and improved aesthetic appeal. These coatings can be used in various applications, including decorative finishes, automotive parts, and medical devices.

Overall, stainless steel PVD fabrication is a sophisticated process that requires specialized equipment and expertise. Choose a reputable PVD coating service provider to ensure that your stainless steel components have a high-quality, durable PVD coating that will enhance their performance and aesthetics.

PVD Fabrication – a spectrum of color options

PVD Fabricated colored stainless steel is used in creating sculpture, architecture, jewelry, and phones and for interiors and exteriors. We look at this very versatile medium.

When it comes to stainless steel, you’re not limited to silver. As a result of the Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) process, it is possible to achieve a rainbow of color options.

The process of PVD Fabrication

During the fabrication process, the stainless steel is cleaned as a first step to ensure that the Fabrication will bond well with the steel. As a next step, the steel must be in a vacuum chamber with another metal known as a “target” metal, which will later fabricate the steel after it places in the section. A high vacuum level needs in the Fabrication chamber, then a tiny amount of argon gas is introduced. A high-voltage circuit is used in stainless steel and targets to bond or adhere. Allows the argon ions to bombard the target to release atoms of the target metal, which deposit in the stainless steel substrate as the Fabrication. This PVD process is known as sputtering, resulting in plasma deposition on the stainless steel surface, giving it new strength and shine.

The colored surface Fabrications that can obtain using PVD include: gold (TiN), rose gold (ZrN), bronze (TiAlN), blue (TiAlN), black (TiAlCN), as well as dark red (ZrN). This ceramic Fabrication which, is produced, is very thin, making the texture of the underlying finish still visible. These PVD colors will not fade over time and benefit from being more uniform in appearance and more abrasion-resistant than coloring, done by the electrochemical processes.

Wear and weather resistant

The stainless steel’s original texture and structure are unchanged, but the PVD process increases the product’s longevity and reduces its maintenance. It has been using for applications that need to be worn and weather resistant, like door hardware, but it is essential to say that the color can be damaged if attacked. PVD lasts longer than other Fabrications.

An environmentally friendly process

The PVD process is also more environmentally friendly than alternatives such as electroplating and painting. Unlike these, no gases, water waste, or other residue are released. Also important to note is that the coloring process does not limit the recycling value of the stainless steel.

Uses for PVD Fabricated stainless steel

Architectural

Pvd-colored stainless steel is well use in the architectural and industrial design industry. Examples include;- stainless steel curtain walls, cladding, profiles for hotels and casinos, shopping centers, railway stations, and the facades and fit-outs of high-end retail stores.

Transport

PVD Fabricated stainless steel can also be used in the transport industry, such as;- ceiling and wall cladding to shipping or seating, skirting, and paneling on trains.

Ironmongery

At the smaller end of the scale, the colored steel can be used for anything from display cases, furniture, and lighting fixtures, to door handles and taps./p>

Jewellery

The PVD process can also be used on stainless steel jewelry, achieving striking colors. The PVD stable colors are gold, rose gold, coffee, black, dark grey, and blue. All these colors are available in a polished, satin, or matt finish according to the product’s surface polish finish.

For gold and rose gold finish, real gold (maybe 14K or 18K) is evaporated and deposited on the part under high temperatures or via ion bombardment. The shade of the gold achieved is according to the gold content of the target. Color pigments, gas, and TiN layer perform other shades.
