What’s PVD coating

This type of coating involves the physical vapor deposition of Titanium or Zirconium over stainless steel substrates in a vacuum chamber, which results in a colored film deposited on top of the stainless steel surface. Under normal interior or exterior conditions, the colored film could last for quite some time without fading.

How it works

A metal or alloy is vaporized using an electric arc from a solid (Cathode) to form a plasma vapor. The highly charged metal vapor is mixed with an inert gas such as argon to form an electrostatic field. Stainless steel sheets that are negatively charged are attracted to the positively charged plasma, which produces a colored metallic film on them. Unlike copper and brass, which fade and oxidize, the color does not fade or oxidize.
