ASTM A358 pipes come in various standards, including ASTM, DIN, JIS, GB, AISI, and other international norms. The ASTM A358 Class 1 EFW (Electric Fusion Welded) pipes use an electric fusion welding process. The ASTM A358 TP304 material consists of 18% chromium, 8% nickel, and small amounts of manganese, silicon, sulfur, and phosphorus. For higher corrosion resistance, particularly against chloride ions, the ASTM A358 TP316L contains molybdenum in its composition. The ASTM A358 TP304 is popular due to its strength and cost efficiency. These stainless steel pipes range from 8 to 72 inches in diameter, with wall thicknesses from 3mm to 60mm. The ASTM A358 UNS S31254 can be up to 6 meters long. The ASTM A358 TP304L stainless steel EFW pipes come in various finishes, including pickled, BA (Bright Annealed), No. 4 finish, and electropolished.

The ASTM A358 TP304 has two classes, Class 1 and Class 2, with slight mechanical differences. The Class 1 material is more commonly used, while Class 2 has higher mechanical properties and is reserved for specific applications. The ASTM A358 TP316L is widely used in food and beverage, construction, nuclear, boilers, and petrochemical applications. These pipes are available in various pressure classes, categorised into schedules ranging from 10 to 160.
Both TP304 and TP316 materials are available in lower-carbon versions, which enhance their welding properties. The reduced carbon content helps prevent carbide precipitation during welding, thus maintaining the material’s corrosion resistance and strength.
