Our offered Spade and Spacers, commonly called Line Blinds, are similar to Spectacle Blinds in that they function similarly. The spade or spacer is installed between two flanges and is bolted to the wall. When the line needs to be open, the Spade Ring Spacer is used, and if it needs to be blocked or closed, the Paddle Blind or Spade or Spade is used. A Paddle Spacer can be swapped over from an open to a closed position by removing only half of the bolts and swapping the Paddle Spacer for the ring spacer. The bolts are then re-installed and tightened. The handle on the pipe will indicate whether the Spade Spacer or the Ring Spacer is being used.

Typically, it is common for a Spade Blind or Paddle Spacer to have a hole on the handle, whereas a Spade Blank or Paddle Blind does not have a hole on the handle. For large sizes, Spades Paddle Blinds and Spacers are the preferred choices. The Paddle Spacer 304 is most commonly used for maintenance when a section of pipe or a device needs to be isolated. Thus, since this is semi-permanent isolation and safe, it is best to use a Spade and Spacer in maintenance operations to ensure safety.
